Five Things You May Have Missed In The National League

By Steven Coney

The weather tried to put a dampener on the weekend but the Vanarama National League managed to, largely, overcome it.

It proved to be another weekend of big results, big goals and big talking points up and down our three divisions.

There was plenty to keep your eye on so here are five things you may have missed across the National League…

It was seventh heaven in the National League!

Saturday was packed with goals in the National League with eight coming at both Mill Farm and the International Stadium. AFC Fylde’s play-off push continued with an emphatic 7-1 win over Aldershot and Gateshead’s outside top seven hopes were boosted with the same scoreline victory against Maidenhead United.

The cross-border derby still means an awful lot

It may have been Mother’s Day and Wales were in rugby action but the cross-border derby still attracted over 6,500 supporters to the Racecourse Ground. Wrexham’s celebrations showed this game is still one of the most hotly anticipated games around - what a big win it could prove to be for the Dragons.

BT Sport’s brilliant backing will continue!

BT Sport were at the Racecourse on Sunday to capture all of the action and just hours before kick-off we announced that the broadcaster has committed to the National League for another three years. The new deal will see typically one match broadcast live each match-week - we can’t wait!

Harrogate take full advantage in the National League North

Salford City went back to the top on Tuesday night but their home game against Blyth Spartans on Saturday was beaten by the rain. Harrogate Town stepped up and fired a big warning shot at their rivals. FC United of Manchester were dismissed 6-0 - a result that sent Simon Weaver’s side back to the summit.

Havant are on top in the South - will they stay there?

And now we’ve got new leaders in the South too! Long-time pacesetters Dartford slipped up at home to struggling Poole, allowing Havant to nip in. The Hawks have now won four of their last five games and are top by a point. They still have two games in hand, too, so could be hard to stop.
