We’ve dissected the performances and results to see what we can take from another interesting round of matches.
Piecing together the talking points and things you may have missed from the past few days, no stone is left unturned!
Anthony Limbrick has Woking dreaming
The Cards have fantastic cup pedigree. FA Amateur Cup winners in 1958, three FA Trophy titles in four years and of course that historic 4-2 FA Cup win at West Brom in 1991.
Despite missing a first-half penalty on Sunday against League One outfit Peterborough United, Joe Ward’s late goal secured a replay and a spot in Monday night’s third round draw. Limbrick’s side will of course need to be at their best to get through the replay at London Road. Regardless, they will be in Monday’s draw alongside the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. Do the Cards have one more trick up their sleeve?
Justin Edinburgh has a VERY big job on his hands at Leyton Orient
Tell us something we didn’t know, right? Edinburgh is a smart appointment by Orient and nobody expects him to perform instant miracles. His first game in charge was a big one and ended in defeat at bottom club Solihull Moors.
Orient fans will hope Edinburgh learnt a lot from Saturday because results have to start coming. Edinburgh says the O’s are the biggest club in the National League but that counts for nothing when you’re scrapping at the wrong end of the table.
Salford City won’t be letting up any time soon
Pre-season favourites maybe but Salford bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley surely couldn’t have anticipated such a fantastic points return from their opening 20 National League North fixtures.
The Ammies claimed a priceless 1-0 victory at play-off hopefuls Blyth Spartans on Saturday to give them their seventh straight win. Already nine points clear of second-placed Brackley Town, can anybody stop Salford?
Darts are sharpening up in the South
Richard Sho-Silva’s early goal at Poole on Saturday was enough as Dartford went three points clear at the top of the National League South. Yes, Poole are struggling, but those gritty 1-0 away wins are the hallmark of champions.
Tony Burman’s side have won four of their previous six league fixtures and are behind only Weston-super-Mare and Hampton & Richmond Borough in the form table. Could the Darts be heading back into the National League after a three season exile?
FC Halifax’s struggles continue
For every club in good form, there is one that is struggling. Despite being on top for most of their game against Barrow on Saturday, FC Halifax Town were defeated 1-0 thanks to substitute Jordan White’s goal at The Shay.
The campaign started so well for last season’s National League North play-off winners but their last win came on September 23 against Bromley. Billy Heath’s side have conceded 15 goals in their previous five games so it’s clear where they have to improve if the wins are to come.
