The National League U19 Alliance is a competition for 16–19-year male players who combine training and playing in organised football fixtures, whilst furthering their studies with an approved Education Provider, which is normally a School 6th Form, Further Education College, or an independent organisation. Players on an apprenticeship or traineeship are also eligible to play in the competition. Applications are accepted from clubs playing in the National League System (Steps 1-6), and, if there is space available, Premier League and Football League Foundation/Community Trust teams. In accordance with the competition rules, which are sanctioned by the FA, we are only allowed to have a maximum of 120 clubs, although several of them, have more than one team.
The National League Trust supports community programmes at clubs who are members of the three divisions of the National League. This support comes in the form of grant aid and development advice. Our aim is to encourage every National League club to become involved in their community. Projects range from music, dance and other arts activities, encouraging volunteering, work with young people not in education or training (NEETs), helping disability groups to play sport, and creating educational initiatives for both adult and children – including literacy and numeracy programmes. There has been work with isolated community groups, green projects, information about healthy eating and lifestyle, and working in partnership with schools to deliver football coaching and other initiatives. Our grant aid programme is made possible by the generous support of the Trust’s funding partners: the Premier League and the Professional Footballer’s Association Charity. Since October 2010 both bodies have committed annual support as part of a three year funding agreement. This is currently £1.2m each year until August 2022. This will bring the total contribution to the charity to £11.4m.
