This weekend’s live BT Sport match is all about a quick response.
FC Halifax Town chose the wrong night to fall apart, a 4-0 home defeat by Wrexham saw the Dragons snatch their play-off spot.
King’s Lynn Town’s heavy loss at Stockport County had less shock factor attached to it, but Ian Culverhouse won’t allow his young side to simply limp over the finishing line.
One saving grace for the Shaymen is that their horrorshow didn’t happen with the nation watching.
Instead, manager Pete Wild is challenging his team to show that game was a total one off.
He has plenty of reason to be confident that it was just one of those evenings every good team has now and again.
Halifax won six of their previous eight National League fixtures before the Dragons put them to the sword.
Taking 20 points from a possible 27 on home turf prior their midweek set-back, Wild is backing his free-flowing and free-scoring side to find a response.
“I want to see us back to our best,” he told the Halifax Courier.
“It’s a massive test of character, it was a nice little wake-up call for the last ten games - it’s a nice little slap in the face and we’ve got to adjust and be back to our best accordingly.
“We’ll see what character the boys have got come Saturday.”
He added: “Obviously it’s on the telly so King’s Lynn, as young players, will want to impress.
“We’ve just got to take care of our own business and make sure that what happened on Tuesday doesn’t happen again.”
One player sure to be the subject of BT Sport’s pre-match assessment is Lynn’s Sonny Carey.
The 20-year-old has been one of the shining lights in a tricky first season at Step 1 for the club.
He is already getting people talking – and scouts have been flocking to take a good look.
Few could have missed his free-kick against Chesterfield last weekend and although a midweek trip to Stockport wasn’t one to remember he seems to be getting better and better.
The midfielder has spoken to the Eastern Daily Press and says he is blocking out any distracting transfer talk.
“I just let all the noise in the background look after itself and I just focus on when I get on the pitch doing what the gaffer has told me to do and give 100pc for the team,” said Carey.
“It’s good hearing the stuff but at the end of the day it is all talk and interest and that’s it until the end of the season and we will see what happens.”
“I am 20 now and I want to play as much as I can. And with players being furloughed and stuff it leaves players to get their chance - I think I have come in and taken my chance well, I’ve been playing alright lately and I just have to keep my head down and keep playing well.”
