Fan Connection Key For Taylor As Stones Look For Growth

New Wealdstone manager Matt Taylor accepts it may take a little time to build a bond with the club’s fans but he is certain it will come.

The former Swindon Town, Walsall and Shrewsbury boss arrived at the club in May and it was into the unknown for both parties.

Taylor can’t wait for his first taste of Vanarama National League football come curtain up at Dagenham on August 10.

Fans at Grosvenor Vale watched his new-look side for the first time last week as they were edged out 2-1 by former boss Stuart Maynard and his Notts County side.

Taylor is pleased with what he has seen so far in pre-season and hopes to keep winning the supporters’ trust.

He said: “When you come into a new football club and you haven’t got a connection - like you haven’t played there - it is always going to take a period of time.

“They need to get to know us, and we need to get to know the fans. Hopefully they have seen already that they’re going to have a team that represents them. They’re going to be hard working and they’ve never going to give up.”

He has told the club’s YouTube channel about his style of management - and they shouldn’t expect any post-match excuses as he hinted at more new arrivals.

“One of the ways I like to manage is to tell people the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth - your man-management skills in football are so important,” he went on.

“I’ve got support from a great group of staff, we’re honest but you have to find a way to do things that work for you.

“A club of our size, we can’t afford to get too many signings wrong. We’re trying to recruit good players and good people, but we’ll still a few short.”
