FA Cup Thrills And Spills Aplenty As First Round Beckons

By Sam Elliott

It was an incredible night of FA Cup replay drama as the line up for the first round was completed.

It’s Torquay United who will welcome Derby County after Gary Johnson’s team did it the hard way.

The Gulls, pictured, came from behind with ten men to win at Hampton & RB, an Aaron Jarvis header confirmed a money spinning tie in what could have been a sobering night in south west London.

Oldham Athletic had to wait until 10.40pm to book their place but they didn’t read the script and wrecked the big Wrexham v Chester tie.

Kevin Roberts’ brilliant extra time goal almost created a game to whet the appetite, after Kurt Willoughby levelled up after Ben Tollitt’s first half goal.

But Mike Fondop’s 119th minute effort sent it to penalties - and the National League Latics held their nerve.

Wrexham survived a real scare against Blyth Spartans to edge themselves into the first round.

Goals from Paul Mullin, Jordan Davies and Ollie Palmer had the Deagons in cruise control but like on Saturday, the National League North club didn’t lie down.

JJ O'Donnell got one back for Blyth before Michael Richardson made things twitchy, but they couldn’t quite pull off the shock.

AFC Fylde will play Gillingham next month after Luke Charman confirmed their progression and put the seal on a 2-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers.

Taunton Town stunned Yeovil on a night of glory and history in the West Country.

Thanks to Lloyd James‘ penalty, the Peacocks will play Milton Keynes next.

Chippenham Town beat Hendon 1-0. It’s Lincoln City next for the Bluebirds.

Adam Campbell was at the double for Gateshead as they got beyond Altrincham - and now it’s a game with League Two leaders Stevenage.
