FA Cup Fever Sets In As National League Clubs Join The Fun

By Sam Elliott

The Vanarama National League clubs have joined the FA Cup party - and they’re all one win away from a potentially huge game with an EFL big boy.

The competition has turned serious and the 32 ties will provide plenty of talking points with the likes of recent former winners Portsmouth and Wigan waiting to discover who they will face.

Clubs’ bean counters will know just how important the fourth qualifying round is. Weekend winners earn a welcome £9,375 plus the chance to play a famous name next month with the losers taking home £3,125.

The players and fans aren’t fussed about the money - they want to see their team create this season’s big headlines.

When you’re out of form, a tricky trip that’s captured the camera’s eyes is probably the last thing you need. Dagenham & Redbridge will be wary of Bracknell Town, the Southern League side showed last year what they can do and live on the Red Button, iPlayer and BBC Sport website, they want to do it all again.

Southend United won’t be fooled by the fact Yeovil Town now play a league lower and have been told to be on their guard at Huish Park.

Gateshead have a job to do at Stourbridge, while Horsham will fancy an upset at home to Dorking Wanderers while Leek Town - who stunned South Shields in the last round - now want to add to AFC Fylde's woes.

It is welcome home games for some of the high fliers as Solihull Moors host Biggleswade Town while Chesterfield fancy their chances against Kettering Town. Barnet won’t be as confident - they’re at Vanarama National League South surprise package Aveley.

Aldershot Town are also on the road with an intriguing tie at Lewes while Vanarama National League North promotion hopefuls Curzon Ashton and Tamworth collide.

Rochdale aren't used to entering at this stage and face a tricky trip to Vanarama National League North Hereford.

Two Vanarama National League South contenders come together with Worthing hosting Bath City as Altrincham and Oldham Athletic swap the battle for points for a place in the first round.
