Expectations Are A Good Thing Says Alty Boss Parkinson

Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson says it’s fine for fans to start dreaming as the club’s blistering form continues.

The Robins have won five in a row after victories over Ebbsfleet United, Maidenhead, Oxford City, Aldershot Town and impressively at Gateshead on Saturday.

Chasing their first ever promotion to the EFL, people are going to need to take their threat seriously if the wins keep coming.

The fourth-place Robins are playing with real swagger but suddenly they are there to be shot at - not that it bothers their manager, who says his squad are enjoying the early-season ride.

Parkinson has never hid his ambitions to one-day manage in the 92 and would love nothing more than to take Alty to new heights.

He is in no mood to damped the mood with any kind of a reality check and praised his players for a brilliant first ten weeks of the new campaign as he prepares his side to face Oldham Athletic on Saturday in what could be a sell-out FA Cup tie.

“Expectations are a good thing, I’ve no problem with that,” Parkinson said. “Even when we were part-time, people kept telling me we should be in the play-offs, so it’s nothing new.

“There is a togetherness in the group that is the cornerstone of everything we do here, and when everyone is on the same page, it does lead to success.

“We will never have a team of individuals. We have flair players, talented individuals, but they are all pulling together. They are all putting a shift in for us, so we are getting something right in terms of player recruitment and the system we play.

“If we continue in that vein, this trajectory will keep going,”he told the Altrincham Messenger.
