A proposal has been put forward which could see the club move from their historic Clarence Park base to a new fantastic facility.
The Saints need to move to push forward they say and manager Ian Allinson explained why the 6,000 new venue could be so crucial.
“We’ve got a big fan base as we have already seen from some of the crowds this season,” told the Herts Advertiser.
“But could it be bigger? Do we lose fans because of the parking for example? If the facilities are better, that could attract people which will garner more revenue.
“Full credit to the owners if they can pull it off because it will be absolutely magnificent for both the club and the city.”
Ian Rogers from St Albans City Supporters Trust said: “The news that a submission has been made to build a new ground along with an enabling development of houses at Chiswell Green adjacent to the M25, is probably of no surprise to supporters.
“The owners have for a number of years made clear their intentions to provide a ground that facilitates more than just one or two matches a fortnight, something that is not achievable at Clarence Park.”
Co-owner Lawrence Levy said: “Since we took over the club in 2011 and quickly realised that, although it could do so much for the local economy and the people who live within it, the current ground would always lose considerable money.
"We had a vision to build a modern, sustainable and successful football club that would create opportunities in sport, leisure and employment for the whole community. We stated this at a full council meeting in November of that year.
“We believe the stadium should be iconic and multi-purpose as well as environmentally friendly. This, we believe, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do this and hope the district council and wider community believe in the huge benefit it will bring and therefore support our proposal.”
