The England C international is studying for a banking and finance degree at Loughborough University.
But Quakers Alun Armstrong says distance is not an issue.
The former Blyth Spartans boss is confident he will remain at the club - and says only a Football League offer may change the situation.
Armstrong told the Northern Echo: “Trotman is staying, he’s part of my plans.
“People might’ve thought I was trying to get rid of him because I’ve been signing local lads, but he is staying and will be right-back at the start of the season.
“If a club comes in for him from the Football League we would never stand in his way, but he is part of my plans.”
Darlington find out their fixtures next Wednesday as they attempt a shot at promotion from the National League North.
