Stalwart Wolfenden Departs FC United

With the new season only a couple of weeks away, FC United of Manchester have confirmed a couple of arrivals and departures from Broadhurst Park.

New additions to the squad are Callum Nicholas and Craig Lindfield.

Nicholas, 19 is an attack-minded central midfielder who is capable of scoring goals.

Born in Manchester, he joined Manchester United’s academy alongside Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

In the summer of 2014, the then 16-year-old joined Liverpool where he was a regular member of the Reds’ under-18 squad.

He struggled with injuries and made just five appearances in his second season and in the summer of 2016, he was released.

Nicholas has appeared three times for FC United in pre-season friendlies, starting at Congleton Town and Abbey Hey and coming on as substitute away at Salford City.

Lindfield, 28, returns to FC United having played for the Reds between 2014 and 2016.

He made sixty-seven appearances, scoring 19 goals.

In pre-season he has scored 4 goals in his games at Congleton, AVRO and Abbey Hey.

However, Matthew Wolfenden and Tomi Adeloye have decided to leave the club.

Wolfenden played for FC United for seven seasons between 2010 and 2017.

He appeared 305 times scoring 94, goals, just 5 short of Rory Patterson’s club record of 99.

Wolfenden (pictured) joined the Reds the week before their famous FA Cup win away at Rochdale, and although he didn’t feature in that match, he came on as a substitute in the Second Round matches against Brighton & Hove Albion.

He was instrumental in the Reds` Northern Premier League campaigns, in particular the 2012/13 season where he scored 19 goals including his long-range strike in the play-off semi-final match at home to Witton Albion, and was voted players` and managers` player of the year that season.

Last season he made forty-one appearances in total. He rounded the season off with 3 goals in the final two league matches and was in the starting XI in the Manchester Premier Cup Final.

Wolfenden has been described by his fellow players as one of the nicest guys in football, and was a favourite amongst the FC United support.

Adeloye, who joined the club in March 2017, playing nine times and scoring once, has left the club due to the difficulty he has in commuting from his base in London.

In addition, FC United recently announced the signings of wingers Aidan Chippendale and Micah Evans. However, after a short trial period, both players are no longer with the club.

Jake Williams and Zac Corbett have yet to register with the club with negotiations on-going.
