Bentley Bows Out After Third Straight Port Defeat

Southport have announced the departure of Jim Bentley.

Bentley took over the club last season when the club were rooted to the bottom of the Vanarama National League North table before steering them to safety and finishing 16th.

Last night's 1-0 defeat to Marine was their third straight defeat - the club have once just three of their 16 games played this calendar year.

The club have also confirmed first-team coach Alan Morgan has also left.

A statement on the club's website reads: "The Board of Directors would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Jim and Alan for their dedication and professionalism during their time at the club."

Club Chairman Peter Mitchell said: "On behalf of everyone at Southport FC, I would like to express our gratitude to Jim and Alan for their hard work and commitment.

"They have conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism throughout Jim’s tenure, and we wish both every success in their future endeavours."

"The Men’s First Team will be overseen by David Morgan as the club undertakes the process of appointing a new management team which we hope to conclude as soon as possible."
