The 19-year-old’s excellent National League South season thrust him into the spotlight and his form saw him rewarded with an England C call up.
The Bluebirds were resigned to losing the teenager and the Gas were on the front foot, landing the centre-back who has attracted plenty of scouts.
His spoke of the move on Bristol Rovers’ website and Ellison said: “I’m delighted. The manager has outlined his plans for me, which have really fitted into what I wanted for the next stage in my career.
“That has made joining Bristol Rovers a really easy decision. This is my first professional contract in football, which is a proud moment for me, and the fact that it has come at such a big, historic and forward-thinking club with such a great fanbase.
Manager Matt Taylor said: “Dan has impressed on his journey in the National League so far and, at 19, has the potential to grow and develop even further.”
In their own statement, Chippenham said: “Of course, this is a bittersweet moment for supporters with wanting to keep hold of our best players a priority at the club but we have never, and will never deny our players the opportunity to further their careers.
“Dan goes to the Gas with our best wishes, our collective support and an army of followers behind him from his old club that wish to see him push to the very top of our game.”
