Edwards Happy To Soak As Bucks Are Back To Winning Ways

AFC Telford won their first game in a month last night with manager Rob Edwards knowing his players got their timing spot on.

Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Tamworth ended a run of three straight defeats for the Bucks.

Telford are back into the top half of the Vanarama National League North thanks to a great goal from John Marsden.

The points were wrapped up on the breakaway late on as Elliot Newby confirmed a first victory since October 21 against bottom club North Ferriby United.

“We’ve been going through a bit of a tricky period and I think you saw a lack of believe at the start of the game,” said Edwards on BBC Shropshire. “There was going to be times when things weren’t going right.

“What I think we don’t well was to manage that period in the game. We stayed in the match and limited them to a few chances.

“You know then that we have the quality to produce something - it was a fantastic goal that got us up and running.”

Edwards knew his side had to do the ugly things to get back to winning ways.

He added: “We knew it was inevitable that they would come at us so we sat a little back and soaked up the pressure hoping to get a goal on the breakaway.

“Thankfully that came off for us. It’s difficult to play after a run of four of five without a win but it’s an important three points.”
