Ebbsfleet Refuse To Wave The White Flag To Relegation

Josh Wright says nobody at Ebbsfleet United is throwing in the towel yet.

It’s already looking grim for the club, seemingly stranded at the bottom of the Vanarama National League with just one win and 13 points to their name.

Fleet may need a miracle if they are to stay up but their new manager is seeing signs of life months after it appeared their support machine was switched off.

Saturday’s 0-0 draw at promotion chasing Rochdale impressed Wright, who took over after the Kent club parted company with Harry Watling in December after less than three months in charge.

The 35-year-old, who played 89 times for Ebbsfleet, says he is determined to deliver some positivity despite them being 16 points from safety.

“I couldn’t be any prouder of them than I am,” he said after Saturday’s goalless draw. “It was immense from every single one of them. They were absolutely tremendous.

“There have been a few performances like that since I’ve been here, but that was the best.

“We had two or three big chances. We looked athletic, sharp and fit. It’s a platform, and now that’s the level we need to reach.

“We’ve suffered this season, let’s not deny it. It hurts us and it hurts our fans deeply. But they’ve seen what we’re about now.

“They’ve got a promise from me that every single time we step over the line, they’ll be giving that.

“They’re the best fans I played in front of as a player and I can’t thank them enough.

“We’re not giving up. We’re continuing all the way.”
