Dragons Vow To Keep Breathing Down Leaders' Necks

By Sam Elliott

Stockport County have been told they’ve got another thing coming if they believe Wrexham are about to throw in the title towel.

The Dragons go into the live BT Sport game at Woking needing to plug a seven-point gap.

But if anyone at Edgeley Park thinks the Welsh club have already turned their attention to the play-offs, they should think again.

Jordan Davies got the winner when the Cards came to north Wales in mid-September.

He told the Evening Leader that he thinks there is genuine hope - especially as the first and second place sides have still to meet at the Racecourse.

"We are definitely the top two teams in the league and hopefully we can finish top," said Davies following Monday’’s thumping 4-0 win over Altrincham, a game which the talented midfielder also found the net in.

"We will chase Stockport down until the very last day. We’ve still got the belief.

"Stockport have got some tough sides to play - Halifax, Chesterfield and us - so they have got a tough run-in.”

Manager Phil Parkinson said there’s little point in wasting time thinking about anything aside from his own team.

"We have just got to take care of our own business and make sure that we keep getting the points our performances deserve,” he said.

"Stockport keep winning, but over the Easter period we have clawed back a point.

"We have got to play them at home and we will make sure that when that game comes around, we are even closer."

Next season, Woking’s new manager Darren Sarll wants to be talking about his team’s promotion chances as we head into the final few weeks.

So with the play-offs out of reach, he has already turned his attention to what he needs come August.

“I’m excited about what we could build here, it’s great to come in before the summer and take a close look at things,” he said.

“You can’t play for me if you can’t run and tackle. Some have embraced that quicker than others which is always the case.

“Some people haven’t got those qualities to produce or execute, or implement that style but the intensity of the game is so important and that relentless energy to press and work hard,” he told Surrey Live.

Saturday’s game is live on BT Sport, coverage gets under way at 5pm.
