Dragons Get Down To Business As Sam Starts With a Win

New Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts got off to a winning start last night, leading his team to a 2-1 victory in a pre-season friendly against Welsh side Lex, writes Aidan Jones.

They are the first National League side to return to pre-season action, with more involved on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Chris Holroyd and trialist Michael Elstone meant a win for the Red Dragons at Stansty Park.

Wrexham began the match with a full strength team on the pitch, and it was only 11 minutes gone and the National League side were in front.

From a set piece, Holroyd getting on the end of a Shaun Pearson effort to go 1-0 to the good.

Lex fought back and were rewarded just before half time with an equaliser, which powered past Christian Dibble.

Both sides had chances to win the match, and Lex could have completed the turnaround on numerous occasions but youth keeper Bent Tinkley was on form.

The game was decided when Jack Mackreth slid through trialist Elstone who eventually slotted past the keeper to take the lead.

The match finished 2-1 and Wrexham now go on to their next challenge, a slightly more difficult one against Airbus.
