The Cards boss targeted a place in the National League South play-offs after arriving in the close season.
So far they have exceeded expectation, storming five points clear following victory over Billericay Town on Saturday.
Woking have won seven from eight and the manager accepts he didn’t see that coming.
But just because the team are flying that doesn’t mean their promotion target has turned into a flat-out title assault.
“Nothing has changed, not at all,” said Dowson, who accepted the challenge of returning the Surrey club to the National League in the summer.
“It’s been a good start but that doesn’t mean we’ve altered our thinking. We’ve got to keep going.
“We’ve done well in patches but we still get sloppy.
“To be fair to the lads they know how to fight back and they did that after we gifted Billericay the lead.
“We’ve still got players out injured and once we get them back we’ll see where we are. It’s been a good first eight games but there’s a lot of football to be played.
“It’s a start, it’s all it is. It doesn’t bother me if I’m being honest. Talk to me when we’re ten points clear.”
Although Woking have won all their four home games they haven’t played particularly well. Until Saturday that was.
“We haven’t been great in front of the fans but we were against Billericay,” he adds.
“We wanted to show them we have character and we did that.”
