The youngster has already made his first-team debut, coming on as a substitute in the final regular National League fixture of the 2016/17 season away at Maidstone United at the age of 16.
The Liverpool-born midfielder has been with the club since the age of 11 and has helped Tranmere’s under-18s to top spot in the EFL Youth Alliance North West Conference this season.
Academy manager Lee Jones said: “I’d like to congratulate James on turning professional.
“It’s a big day in his career and something he and his family should be proud of. But he knows that he’s got to keep working hard every day if he wants to make the next step of playing for the first-team.
“We’ve got a proud history of players coming through the youth system at Tranmere and turning pro – James is the latest to so and I wish him the best of luck”.
