Davies, Vilhete And Hall Earn Player Of The Month Awards!

By Sam Elliott

Let’s meet our three Players of the Month as the stand–out stars from January are rewarded for their sensational starts to 2025.

New year, new Sutton United. The south west London club have left behind a rotten end to 2024 to get their push for an instant EFL return back on track again.

The catalyst to the recovery was Will Davies, consigning the U’s winless December to history as he scored five goals in five matches.

Davies played a huge part in their resurgence and they’re now eyeing a Wembley double as Sutton last weekend sealed a place in the last eight of the FA Trophy.

He came back to haunt former club York City with a super display, a statement win at the LNER which ended the title-chasers’ eight match winning streak at home.

Without Davies’ goals up at York and against Wealdstone, Eastleigh and Tamworth, Sutton would have six less points on the board but they finished January just outside the top seven.

Every club needs a midfield maestro and National League South Hampton & RB are no different.

Mauro Vilhete is 31 these days, but is arguably having his best season yet.

The Beavers ended last month closer to the play-offs than they have been this term, and so much of that was down to their man in the middle.

In a tough contest for Player of the Month in the South, Vilhete stood out more than most with his contribution to the cause.

He played every minute of every game, scoring four goals in five games including a crucial double against Welling United and the all-important winner against high-flying Torquay United. He twice made the Vanarama Team of the Week, and fans think there’s more of that to come.

Connor Hall has been instrumental to Brackley Town’s climb up the National League North table after the Saints took time to recover from their latest bout of play-off heartache.

The striker’s side had a brilliant month despite playing four of their five league games away from their St James Park home.

Hall notched the winner against Oxford City to add to his brace against Spennymoor Town, and goals at Scunthorpe United and Alfreton Town kept Gavin Cowan’s side right in the mix.

The forward also claimed an assist for Matt Lowe’s winning goal against Curzon Ashton - and suddenly they are wondering if they could play a part in the division’s ever-changing title race!
