Davies Reckons Home Defeat Could Well Revitalise Dragons

By Steven Coney

Andy Davies has called on his Wrexham side to turn their defeat against Boreham Wood into a positive heading into the final five games of the season.

The Dragons’ 16-game unbeaten run was ended at the Racecourse Ground - Bruno Andrade’s early penalty enough for the Wood.

It was only Wrexham’s second National League defeat on their own soil this season but Davies reckons his team - who had Kevin Roberts sent off - could use the setback to refocus ahead of the final push.

The effect of the result was lessened somewhat by the defeats for play-off rivals Sutton United, Aldershot Town and Dover Athletic.

Davies told the club’s YouTube channel: “It’s got to be about us, we can’t affect what other people do.

“We have to get as many points on the board as possible but it wasn’t to be today. Other results have gone for us slightly but there are other teams closing the gap now.

“For us it’s about putting this game to bed and learning from it. Can it be the little kick we need to revitalise us again because we’ve been on a great run. That little kick from today’s result might just help us and gear us up for the next five games.

“We’re trying to finish as high as possible - that would be huge. Second and third place reduces the number of games you have to play and gives you that home advantage.”
