Inspirational captain Elliot Bradbrook has retired after making 444 appearances in a ten year spell at the club.
He scored an incredible 142 times from midfield but aged 34 said the moment was right to call it a day this summer.
That means joint bosses Coyle and Adam Flanagan now have a huge hole to fill.
Coyle believes a young player could step up and go on to do great things as the Darts look to make amends after missing out on the National League South play-offs last season.
“Some players are just irreplaceable and that’s something you have to accept,” he told us.
“But in Sam Blackman we potentially think we have a player who could go on to do big things for the club and command the same respect.
“Elliot was a legend, but we actually see a lot of his qualities in Sam.
“He’s a natural winner, leads by example and has similar energy. With a bit of luck he can follow in his footsteps.
“He is back after leaving us for men’s football. He’s a local lad and his family a supporters which really helps.
“That means the club means a little bit more.”
