Darts Return To Top Spot - Rocks Still Alive - Just

By Steve Whitney

The wet weather is still having a say in the Vanarama National League South as the crucial matches at Havant & Waterlooville and at Poole Town were both postponed on Tuesday night.

However, the game at Evesham between mid-table Gloucester City and high-flying Dartford did receive the referee`s nod of approval and it saw Tony Burman`s visitors return to the top of the table on goal difference following a very hard-earned 1-0 win at The Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.

The Tigers will count themselves a touch unfortunate not to have at least got a draw out of this one, but just lacked that vital finishing touch.

What turned out to be the only goal of the game came from top scorer Alfie Pavey, who grabbed his 21st goal of the season with 6 minutes of the first half remaining.

It came slightly against the run of play but in the end proved vital.

Truro City returned to winning ways and fourth place in the table after a 2-0 win against relegation-threatened Concord Rangers at Treyew Road.

There was a dream start for the White Tigers when straight from kick-off an inviting cross from the left by Connor Riley-Lowe found the head of Cody Cooke who made no mistake.

The visitors looked to get back into the game straight away with a couple of half-chances that came to nothing.

But Truro managed to double their advantage on 27 minutes when Ed Palmer curled home a free-kick.

And that`s how the scoreline remained, leaving the Beachboys eight points clear of the bottom three with fifteen points left to play for.

St Albans City made the trip to the Sussex coast to take on a Bognor Regis Town side whose relegation would have been confirmed with defeat.

The Rocks started the evening in bottom spot but showed terrific fighting spirit which, unfortunately, may have come too late to save them, despite this 2-1 win at Nyewood Lane.

The home side shocked the sixth-placed Saints by taking an early 8th minute lead through Ibra Sekajja.

And it got even better for a Rocks side who had lost their last six games when Tommy Scutt added a second just before the half-hour mark.

The real drama came late on though.

The Saints were unfortunate 20 minutes from time when Zane Banton's corner fell to Kieran Monlouis, whose header crashed off of the bar.

Then in the 4th minute of stoppage time, St Albans pulled a goal back when Tom Bender`s cross was headed home by Harvey Bradbury.

And then 2 minutes later, the visitors were awarded a penalty and Bognor were reduced to ten-men when Sami El-Abd was penalised and dismissed for an off-the-ball incident.

However, Bognor goalkeeper Dan Lincoln preserved his team`s lead and place in the National League South – at least for now – when he pulled off a fine save to keep out David Noble`s spot-kick.

Welling United were looking to rekindle their play-off chances after defeat to Havant & Waterlooville last weekend when they hosted fellow contenders Hemel Hempstead Town.

Both sides gave it a real go, but neither side were able to trouble the scorers at Park View Road, leaving the Wings needing results to go their way in pursuit of a top seven spot now.
