Curzon Ashton Win Relegation `Six-Pointer`

By Steve Whitney

There was an important game in the Vanarama National League North on Wednesday night with the re-arranged relegation battle between Curzon Ashton and Gainsborough Trinity.

The match was due to have been played on Monday, but the Tameside Stadium pitch was waterlogged, so it was quickly switched to Wednesday.

And both sides were in desperate need of the points.

Trinity started the evening four points behind the Nash in second-bottom spot.

The game was certainly not pretty to watch at times, but it`s points that count at this stage of the season.

And the home side received a massive boost right on the stroke of half-time when they broke the deadlock with Danny Shaw claiming the last touch.

Lee Sinnott`s visitors battled hard to get back into the game but found Curzon`s defende in determined mood.

And the points were assured as the match entered stoppage time at the end when Joe Guest headed over Trinity `keeper Henrich Ravas

Trinity have four games left to try and get out of trouble, with three of them against teams in the bottom four, while Curzon, now three points clear of the drop zone, have a much tougher run-in, although they do possess a game in hand on Trinity.
