Cup Fever Takes Over As National League Sides Join Party

By Sam Elliott

FA Cup fever is taking hold once again - and now the National League clubs join the fun and begin what could be an incredible adventure.

After the exploits of Boreham Wood and Kidderminster Harriers last season, the bar has certainly been set high. So could we have more history of the way?

There are 32 ties coming on Saturday with two live games coming before the 3pm kick-offs

It’s Chesterfield first up and the romance of the FA Cup is alive and kicking.

Anstey Nomads have been handed the biggest game in their history, the ninth tier village side are the lowest ranked team still left in the competition.

The United Counties League Premier Division North club’s manager is hoping the game doesn’t go to a reply - as he’s got a holiday booked!

"I’m leaving at 3am to go to Luton Airport on Sunday for my half-term break so whatever happens there won’t be a manager on Tuesday!” he joked.

It’s fair to say Wrexham’s story went global long before they got pair with Blyth Spartants and the game was picked for live international coverage.

Their hosts have a rich FA Cup history themselves to call upon and will want to put on a show for those tuning in Stateside - the match will be shown live on ESPN2 and streamed on ESPN+.

Chester fans have waited a while for a great FA Cup away day and make the trip to Oldham Athletic, who are in the competition at this point for the first time.

Scunthorpe United, who aren’t exactly used to this stage either, head to South Shields who have the scent of an upset filling their nostrils.

Last year’s FA Cup heroes take to the field as Kidderminster - impressive in the competition so far - welcome AFC Fylde, with Boreham Wood dreaming again, they have home advantage over Wealdstone.

Aldershot Town are on high upset alert and won’t relish a trip to National League South high fliers Chelmsford City, who know how to cause shockwaves at Melbourne Park.

Dagenham will be wary as they go to Kent to face Beckenham Town while Coalville Town want to ruffle Magpies’ feathers at Notts County.

The winner banks a cheque for £9,375 with the losing teams taking home £3,125 from the prize pot.
