Cundy Returns To Tigers On A Permanent Basis

Gloucester City have announced the signing of 20-year-old centre-half Robbie Cundy for the coming season.

The 6`4” centre-back had trials with Kidderminster Harriers and Sutton United during pre-season, but has signed on the dotted line for the Tigers ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Cundy has been with City before, having appeared on loan for the club during the 2015/16 season. During that time, he showed his quality in defence and was recognised with a National League North player of the month award.

Speaking of his new acquisition, manager Tim Harris was full of praise for the former Oxford United defender, telling the club`s official website: “Robbie is a decent lad and ever since he came in on loan we have always kept in touch.

“I have been talking to him over the last few days about signing and we’re delighted to get the deal done.

“We all know what Robbie is about from his time on loan with us before and he gained more experience last season with Southport and Oxford City, he is very well respected by everybody at the club, including the fans.

“We`re not necessarily looking at another central defender though this suits both parties and he adds excellent competition for places in an already strong group of players.

“He knows that he may have to be patient for a starting spot but he is very driven to do well and succeed as a footballer, but if he’s at the top of the pecking order he’ll certainly be very hard to shift.

“Obviously Lewis Hall will be out for a few weeks and with Robbie signing that will allow us to shuffle some things around on the back line.”

Cundy will go straight into the Tigers squad to face Chelmsford City on the opening day of the season tomorrow.
