Crowd Pleasers! The Top Attendances From Boxing Day's Games

By Sam Elliott

The biggest attendances of the season were recorded on Boxing Day as the crowds came out the post Christmas feast of football.

The second highest gate of the season came at Prenton Park as 6,669 watched Tranmere continue their impressive recent run. Only the visit of Chester in October bettered Tuesday’s figure.

Gateshead’s recorded their best crowd for years - over 3,500 came to see the 2-2 draw with Hartlepool United.

Incredibly, there were around 6,500 combined in just two National League North matches as Stockport County played Alfreton, and FC United rocked leaders Salford City.

Credit due too for two impressive crowds in the National League North with 1,465 watching the big Essex derby between Braintree Town and Chelmsford City. There was 1,401 at Welling United - the best this season - as the Wings suffered late heartache against leaders Dartford at Park View Road.

Here is the top ten crowds from a quite brilliant Boxing Day:

Tranmere Rovers v AFC Fylde 6,669

Leyton Orient v Dagenham 5,125

Aldershot Town v Woking 4,181

Gateshead v Hartlepool 3,538

Stockport County v Alfreton 3,453

FC United v Salford City 3,041

Macclesfield Town v AFC Halifax 2,313

Eastleigh v Torquay United 2,092

Dover Athletic V Maidstone United 2,078

AFC Telford United v Kidderminster 1,995
