The thrilling victory against Southport wasn’t quite big enough to overhaul leaders Chorley.
But it was another show of strength from a Stockport side who don’t know when they’re beaten.
“Southport are a very good side, putting five past Chorley the other week, so we knew we were in for a very tough game,” Gannon told the club’s press team after the 3-2 success.
“There were times when we needed to change our shape in the first half but I thought we were excellent value for the win.
“We've seen our mental strength before this season when we've been behind. We seemed quite stunned to be 2-0 down but the players seemed confident always that they would win.
“I think Southport really struggled with what we did in the early second half and when we took the lead they were clutching straws.”
They have now hit the magical 60 point mark - something that seemed unthinkable in February when they were struggling for results in October.
"It’s a nice number, 60, to be at this stage of the season,” Gannon added. “We just need to keep looking forward and closing the gap.
“By the time we're back from Trophy action, Chorley will have played twice - so we'll see then."
