Could Tonight Be The Night For Leaders Chesterfield?

By Sam Elliott

There may not be many matches tonight but there’s a lot on the line - and we may see our first champions crowned.

In Barnet fail to defeat Eastleigh this evening then Chesterfield officially cannot be caught, and the party can really start.

Of course if the Bees do win against a Spitfires side still looking over the shoulders, then the table toppers can complete the job themselves on Wednesday night when they head to FC Halifax Town.

On Saturday, the first bit of divisional movement was confirmed when Bishop’s Stortford’s National League North relegation was rubber-stamped.

Now it’s about who goes with them and King’s Lynn Town could take a big step towards safety with a win over the bottom club.

Blyth Spartans will also feel they’re near the comfort zone if they win at home to Buxton.

It’s a big evening for the teams down the bottom of the National League South as well as the game really start to tick down.

Eastbourne Borough will be as close as they have been for nearly all the season to the other side of the drop zone - if they win their game against Truro City in a match taking place at Gloucester City.

If Welling United leave Hampton & RB with three points, they will think it’s nearly job done - but the Beavers are now eyeing a top three finish and home play-off advantage.

Braintree Town are currently third and as things stand will avoid the Eliminators. They face Weymouth, who know a win should be good enough to keep them in the division.
