Cook Completes His Chesterfield Return With A Title Target

By Sam Elliott

Paul Cook has completed a sensational return to Chesterfield seven years after leaving the club.

The 54-year-old led the Spireitres to the League Two title and League One play-offs in his previous spell.

Now he returns to attempt to get the EFL chasers up again after he was today confirmed as James Rowe’s replacement.

The former Portsmouth and Wigan manager has made a quick return to the dug-out after leaving Ipswich Town in December.

Danny Webb - in caretaker charge since Rowe's departure - will stay on, the club confirmed.

Chief executive John Croot said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul back to the club. He enjoyed great success here previously and to secure someone with his impressive track record is a real coup.

“Paul was our number one target when we began our search for a new manager and we are sure that our supporters will share our delight that he has agreed to take the role.

“Danny Webb is looking forward to working with Paul as part of the new management team.”

Chesterfield are eyeing-up the title and sit in second place just one point behind league leaders Stockport County.

His first gamer in charge will be at Weymouth on Saturday.
