City got up and running under their caretaker boss over the Bank Holiday weekend and will look to continue their upturn against Hereford this weekdn.
"We played some really good football from start to finish,” said Collins after Monday's win against Blyth Spartans.
“I don't want the players to be afraid of making mistakes. I want them to go and play and enjoy having the ball.
"We've only really had two days to work on things, because we've needed to keep people fresh with two games in three days so, to put in a performance like that, was outstanding.”
Collins took charge after the sacking of Martin Gray last week and was told he had two games to outline his intentions.
After four points from his two games at the helm, York now sit in the top seven for the first time this season.
A win at Edgar Street would surely make Collins the outstanding candidate for the job full-time.
But he doesn't wnat to get drawn into the managerial debate.
He said, "I just want to win as many matches as possible because, if it's me or somebody else that becomes manager, we're all paid by the club to win games."
