Coasters Move Into Top Seven And Increase Barrow Woes

By Steve Whitney

AFC Fylde moved into the play-off placed in the Vanarama Natioal League on Tuesday night after a fine 3-1 win at the Furness Building Society Stadium against relegation-threatened Barrow AFC.

It was a massive blow to the Bluebirds, whose poor run at home now extends to a dozen games without a win in all competitions.

The Coasters took a 24th minute lead through Jon Smith, but the hosts were back on level terms with a header from Nathan Waterson on the half-hour mark – his first goal for the club.

There was a very familiar scorer though as the visitors restored their lead 9 minutes into the second half as former Barrow striker Danny Rowe made it 21 league goals for the season to date.

And Dave Challinor`s side wrapped up victory in the 4th minute of time added on at the end through Serhat Tasdemir.

There were some unsavoury scenes at the final whistle as a couple of Barrow players squared up to each other as frustrations boiled over after a defeat which leaves the Cumbrians only above the relegation trap door on goal difference with games running out.
