The Heed are into the play-off places after getting the better of Dagenham & Redbridge.
The 2-0 win in East London was secured thanks to a double from fans’ favourite Steven Rigg.
Rookie boss Clark stepped up when Steve Watson took up a job offer at York City last month.
But the club’s legendary defender doesn’t think the off-field distractions have had a big impact of his players.
“The lads have been fantastic,” said the manager, who saw his team rise to sixth over the weekend.
“They do say it’s the sign of a good team when you win while not being at your best and I don’t think we were firing on all cylinders.
“There’s more to come but what a great result is for us against a difficult side.
“We’re in the mix and I think we played well in the second half. We aired a few views at full-time and it had the desired effect.”
Clark added: “We’re up there on merit and it’s great for the club.
“We work hard for each other and any side who does that has a great chance of doing well.”
