Clarets Cling On To Early Goal To Claim Three Vital Away Points

By Steve Whitney

With Concord Rangers' derby at home to East Thurrock United being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, there was only one game in the National League South on Tuesday.

The Woodspring Stadium hosted the surviving fixture, where Weston-super-Mare welcomed Chelmford City.

Weston were looking to get their play-off challenge back on track after last weekend's draw with East Thurrock left them three points adrift of seventh-placed Truro City, while the Clarets had also been held last Saturday but could go third if they won on the North Somerset coast.

And they did just that to close the gap to four points on leaders Dartford after a narrow 1-0 win.

Chelmsford clung on to a lead given to them as early as the 8th minute by new signing from Braintree Town, Phil Roberts (pictured), who blasted high into the net from close range.

It was a bit of a 'backs to the wall' effort after that for Rod Stringer's side, especially in the second half as Weston dominated but they held on for three vital points.
