Christmas Crackers: Gifts For National League Clubs

By Steven Coney

Christmas is the season of giving so we’ve decided to get into the spirit of things!

Fans live and breath their clubs and will no doubt have a long list of things they’d like to get their favourite teams.

We’ve had a look and picked out six Vanarama National League clubs to give a gift to - we think they’ll appreciate them…

Eastleigh - Rocket Fuel

The Spitfires need something. They’ve got the worst form in the National League and have been on a miserable run. Andy Hessenthaler has taken over as manager with Richard Hill moving upstairs. It could be the change the club needs but our present will help get them going too!

Gateshead - Petrol Money

People say money is a lazy present at Christmas but we would disagree in this situation. Behind Torquay, Gateshead have the furthest to travel this season and it’s only right that we dig deep to help lighten the burden. The Heed have picked up 12 points from their 12 away games - a decent return.

Guiseley - Travel Sickness Tablets

One club that hasn’t been so good on the road is Guiseley. The Lions have won just once away from Nethermoor in the League, scoring only eight goals in 11 matches. They’re seven points adrift of safety and will need the odd result away from home to help them climb out of trouble. Our gift should help!

Solihull Moors - A New Bus

A 2-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers in Monday's rescheduled FA Trophy tie could be just the thing Solihull need. They’ve improved since Mark Yates took over but their defensive record overall has been poor this season. They’ve conceded 42 times in 24 matches and that has to improve if they want to stay in the National League. A nice shiny new bus to park would presumably be welcomed at the Automated Technology Group Stadium!

Sutton United - Some Socks

A pretty rubbish present, right? The one everybody fears opening on Christmas Day but we were struggling to think of what to get the club that seemingly has had it all over the past 12 months or so. The U’s now sit second in the National League and are firmly in the promotion race. Paul Doswell has done a fantastic job and Sutton fans will no doubt think they’re still dreaming.

Torquay United - Bird Feed

Do seagulls even eat bird feed? We’re not sure! Regardless, the Gulls need to find some victories from somewhere to climb out of trouble. Their recent form has been promising but they’ll need a few more performances like those to get the results they need. Some sustenance will hopefully be a good thing!
