Christmas Comes Early But Cooper Calls For Trust

Yeovil Town manager Mark Cooper told his in-form players to make a start on their Christmas shopping - before making a sale himself.

The Glovers announced exciting Jordan Young has been sold to Torquay United, a move which surprised many supporters.

The 25-year-old has been “very, very good” for the club since they were promoted back to the National League according to his new manager after Paul Wotton, who happily signed the forward for an undisclosed fee.

Cooper, who has recently celebrated 100 games in charge at Huish Park, told fans to “trust what we’re doing” after the move was announced this week.

He feels Yeovil are in a good place, six unbeaten and now sitting in a play-off place.

His team have conceded just four goals since beating AFC Fylde on September 7, with the only disappointment an FA Cup defeat at Chesham United.

He said after defeating Maidenhead United 3-1 on Saturday: “We’re in a rich vein of form.

“We look accomplished and we could have scored four or five. It’s pleasing. The players know what they’re doing, they have a clear way of playing.

“We have a distinct style and we’re patient with our build up. Whoever comes in understands their role.”

A blank Saturday is rare - so he told his players to get ahead of the game with their festive gift buying.

“We would love to still be in the FA Cup,” the former Kettering Town, Forest Green and Notts County manager, 55, said.

“But if you can get that little break it gives the chance to freshen everyone up.

“The players will get two or three days off to get some of their Christmas shopping done early! Our next game is away at Southend and we’ll make sure we prepare.”
