Chorley's Jansen Hails 'Best Performance'

By David Richardson

Matt Jansen couldn't hide his delight after his Chorley side beat Darlington 4-1 on Tuesday evening, branding it possible the best performance during his time at the club.

Chorley have had a mixed start to the Vanarama National League North season but everything clicked in mid-week - watch match highlights here.

Jason Walker's third minute penalty set things in motion before Matthew Challoner and Walker again netted before half-time.

The visitors did get one back after the break but Nicholas Haughton made sure of the result, adding a fourth to cap a sterling night for Jansen.

"That was possibly the best performance since I've been manager at the club," he said. "The only disappointment was that it should have been about 16 or 17-1!

"We had so many chances and so many opportunities against a strong side, who will be up there. It was an outstanding team performance.

Chorley have claimed impressive back-to-back wins over York City and Darlington but Jansen has warned against complacency. He added: "I'm not going to get carried away, it's two good performances against two good sides.

"Sometimes you take the foot off the gas, I don't want us to do that. All last season and the season before we would do well against the better teams and the 'lesser' teams. We have to make sure we're bang at it."
