Chorley Wary Of Their Lower League Opposition In FA Cup

By David Richardson

Chorley won’t be taking their North West Counties League opposition Ashton Athletic lightly in the FA Cup third qualifying round says captain Andy Teague.

The game will kick-off at 12.30pm and be shown live across BBC Sport, with fans able to stream online or via tablet and mobile devices.

This is the furthest Ashton have been in the competition after thumping Albion Sports 4-0 in the previous round. National League North Chorley advanced with a 3-1 win at Stalybridge Celtic.

The Magpies sit 9th in the league while Ashton, three levels below, are 20th but have five games in hand because of their cup run.

After past experiences against Ashton, Chorley won’t be underestimating their opponents.

“Everyone’s buzzing for it,” said Teague.

“We know what Ashton Athletic are like after we played against them last season in the Lancashire Cup.

“They played really well that day and beat us on penalties, so we cannot afford to take them lightly. If we go out and perform like we know we can, regardless of it being in front of the BBC cameras, we should go through to the next round of the competition.”

Messages can be sent on Twitter to the commentary team of Mark Scott and former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson by using the hashtag #bbcfacup during the game and they will aim to respond to as many as they can.
