Chester v Wrexham: The Managers Have Their Say

By Sam Elliott

The managers have had their say and now it’s time to get the show on the road as the build up to the cross-border derby continues.

Chester play Wrexham tonight in what is always one of the fixtures of the season.

Of course, you can watch it all unfold if you haven’t got a ticket - the match is live on BT Sport and it’s sure to be worth tuning in for.

Naturally, the two managers have been speaking ahead of the big game, and here’s what they have had to say.

Chester manager Marcus Bignot (Chester Standard)

“The players have a duty to get the supporters behind them, but when you talk about derbies I think the atmosphere and the game takes care of itself.

“The players should be able to thrive in this environment. Straight from the off our supporters will make a lot of noise and get behind the players, who have a duty to perform. They will be inspired and galvanised by the atmosphere our supporters will create.

“We’re going in the right direction, in small steps. The league table is going to fluctuate all the time but in terms of a form guide, stats and points return, the last five games would see us out of the bottom four."

Wrexham manager Dean Keates (Daily Post)

"It is a derby, the form book goes out the window, everybody finds that little bit more. It will be a great atmosphere to play in for the players, but the form book goes out the window.

"Ultimately it is about us going there and getting the three points. I don't want to play it down because it is special, and the lads will know what it is all about.

"We give them information and they will know what it means to the town, but ultimately it is about the three points. Our aim is to go and get the three points as it is in every single game. You have to go and play the game not the occasion. We will go there and all being well our game plan will come off and we can get the win.

"It is going to be a hotly contested derby, two sets of fans that are going to be passionate and up for it."
