Chester Boss McCarthy Thanks Fans After Defeat

By David Richardson

Chester's winless home run continued on Saturday with a Cheshire Derby defeat to Macclesfield Town which left the home fans restless at full-time - but manager Jon McCarthy thanked the Blues' fans for their support.

Goals in either half from Mitchell Hancox and Kieran Kennedy were enough to give Macclesfield back-to-back wins.

Two days earlier Chester gained an impressive victory at Aldershot Town but that result took its toll on the Blues, leaving them with no fit strikers for the visit of the Silkmen.

McCarthy's side have picked up six points from six games so far although after another winless game at the Swansway Chester Stadium, some home fans voiced their discontent at full-time.

However, the Chester boss thanked supporters for turning out, understanding their frustration.

"It was a tired looking performance, we can't kid ourselves," he said. "The players looked a little bit flat and we never got the energy levels we wanted in front of our home crowd, who were excellent.

"That group of young lads who were on the drum, I asked for that, and they came and delivered. I need to thank them. The way they sang and sang and sang to try and get us going.

"The striker situation hurts us but the back four need to do better. We can't make any excuses there because I had those people fit. I'm disappointed with that aspect of the team, that should have done better and would have made things tighter and given us a chance.

"We tried everything. We rotated, we changed systems, we did everything we possibly could to give it a lift and try to find answer."
