Chelmsford's New Owner Makes Clear His EFL Ambition

Chelmsford City’s new owner says he is determined to take the club into the EFL.

Spencer Gore has acquired the majority shareholding in the National League South side from John Holmes and has big plans for the future.

The strategic investments entrepreneur is now at the helm of the Essex club and he has vowed to support manager Robbie Simpson as they try to make the next step.

Last season the Clarets were defeated in the play-offs to eventual promotion-winners Braintree Town and they want a bit of what their rivals have got.

Gore, who is also founder of medical journals EMJ and AMJ, says while he is planning for the years ahead that doesn’t mean the coming campaign will be forgotten.

He said: “I am committed to developing Chelmsford City into the outstanding Football League club I know it can be.

“My goal is to drive the club forward - not only by supporting Robbie and the first team but also by continuing the great work the Women’s team are achieving, along with the broader club sections of the club.

“I am incredibly excited to help the club and its supporters achieve the success they deserve.

“I will work with all stakeholders and the newly formed board to develop the plan for the future of the club whilst also focusing on the importance of this season.

“We will then share more details on our plans in the very near future, I appreciate how important communication with the fans is.”

Chelmsford get their season underway next Saturday with a trip to Slough Town before a home game with Hampton & RB a week later.
