Chairman & Vice-Chairman Quit Blues

Vanarama National League South club Bishop’s Stortford have announced changes with its Board of Directors.

Chairman Luigi Del Basso and vice-chairman John Turner have both resigned as Directors with immediate effect. Both have agreed to continue their support until the end of the 2015/16 season as club officials.

Del Basso has been with the club since 1999 and chairman for the past 12 years, Turner has been involved with the club for 30 years, as Director since 2009 and vice-chairman since 2014.

Over the past several months it has become clear that a number of supporters are dissatisfied with the way the club is run and financially supported by the chairman and his Board of Directors and that followed by the personal attacks both written and via social media to the vice-chairman they have decided it is time for change.

The rationale behind their decision is to give all interested parties the remaining four months of the seasons to approach the club, with a view to establishing new appointments ahead of the start of next season.

Del Basso commented: “It has been a fabulous seventeen-year journey from getting involved when building funds were required in 1999 to becoming a director in 2000 and chairman in 2004, two promotions and everything in between.”

Turner stated: “It’s been a fantastic thirty years with the club at Woodside Park and Rhodes Avenue, but when your personal integrity is challenged and physical threats are made it’s time to move on. I will hopefully still be a frequent visitor to matches next season and will still help out on match days if required, I wish the club well for the future.”
