The 45-year-old manager returns to the National League North Yellows three years after leaving, having been at the helm between 2016 and 2021.
He leaves Nantwich Town to rejoin his former club, replacing Mark Beesley who was this weekend announced as the new manager of FC United of Manchester.
Carden, who left the club to take over at AFC Telford United after a playing career which included stints at Cambridge United, Chester and Peterborough, was a popular figure and the man widely credited with laying the foundations for their recent success.
Macormac says this is not about nostalgia, but was delighted to bring Carden “home” after three years away.
“Paul will understand better than anyone how the club works,” he told the BBC.
“I thought it was the best fit possible. He will know a lot of the players, and he has a proven track record.
“We have 50 expressions of interest, but the club needed someone who was willing was buy into everything we are about. This will help us get some stability.”
Warrington sit 19th in the table with with no game next Saturday due to the club's FA Cup exit, Carden will get extra time with his players before his first match back in charge at Chorley on October 5.
A Warrington statement read: “The club would like to thank Nantwich Town, where Carden has been in charge since February 2023, for their co-operation in making the deal happen.
“Assistant manager Nigel Keogh and goalkeeper coach Mark Canning will remain in their respective roles.”
