Just one win so far has one of the close season title favourites chasing their tails.
Despite a spirited and ultimately fruitful comeback against Boreham Wood on Saturday, Tranmere find themselves in 19th place after 6 games.
It's a far cry from their great start last season and Mellon knows victory at the Moors, below them in the table, is important to getting things going at Prenton Park.
Happy with their late show against Wood, the manager knows victory against a side who have just taken their first 3 points of the campaign against Torquay is a big ask.
"We left ourselves with an awful lot to do being 2-0 down but we came back into it," he said.
"With a bit of luck that can be a bit of a turning point for us and we can move forward.
"If we can get the win against Solihull we can start looking up again and getting ourselves back on track.
"There are a lot of things we need to put right, we know we have got to be better in certain areas and after six games we are not where we want to be.
"We were pleased with the application in the final stages of the Boreham Wood game and now that's got to carry us forward."
