Can New Signings Put Smiles Back On Altrincham Faces?

Phil Parkinson hopes two new signings will bring the real Altrincham back.

The unhappy manager pulled no punches after the Robins’ 3-0 loss at Leamington on Saturday.

It came two weeks after the club lost 4-1 at Chorley in the National League North.

He hopes the addition of Joe Piggott, a striker, from Wigan and goalkeeper Steve Drench from Bradford Park Avenue can help turn the tide.

He said after Saturday’s defeat: “I have no idea where that performance came from.

“I’m soul-searching, to be honest, and we deserve all the criticism we get, particularly for what happened in the first half. That cost us the game.
“We have an identity at Altrincham. I have tried to promote that and instil it in the players ever since I arrived at the club.

“I didn’t recruit players to play that way, yet that’s what we did consistently throughout the first half,” he told the club’s website.

“People may write it off as a bad day, but it was worse than that for me.

“I can only apologise to the fans. They must be disgusted with that performance.”
