Can Havant’s Hawks Challenge For Their Third Promotion?

Lee Bradbury has never been one for pre-season excitement.

But even the Havant & Waterlooville manager accepts a win over League One Wycombe bodes well.

Two Alfie Pavey penalties saw off the Chairboys at the weekend as the Hawks continue to encourage.

They face a trip to Barrow on the opening day of the National League season and they are looking the part.

Of course the south coast club are looking for a third promotion in a row having won the Ryman League in 2017 and secured the National League South title in the final few minutes on the final day of last season.

Bradbury said: “Over the years you come to learn pre-season results have little baring on the real stuff.

“But Saturday was positive. We played well and got a good 2-0 win out of a difficult game.

“Wycombe are a good side and like us have just won promotion. But we were organised and stood up to them.

“Pre-season results don’t mean anything but performances certainly do. We have to make sure we keep this standard up.”

The Hawks face more League One opposition on Friday night when they welcome Neal Ardley’s AFC Wimbledon.
