Cameras Roll As Lynn And Yeovil Aim To Be Box Office

By Sam Elliott

Back in 2013, King’s Lynn Town were promoted to the seventh tier the same year Yeovil were promoted to the second.

The Glovers' Championship campaign and Lynn's Northern Premier League Division One South winning season now seem like a world away.

So much has changed as they prepare to meet as equals, live on Saturday tea time.

Yeovil manager Darren Sarll thinks BT Sport couldn’t have picked a better game to celebrate the National League's return.

Like everyone else back in their stride, both are looking to make up for lost time.

While the Norfolk club haven’t been in competitive action since losing to Guiseley in the middle of March, Yeovil of course had the play-offs to prepare for.

It was short lived, losing the eliminator at home to Barnet, but Sarll is looking forward to giving his vocal chords a good airing once again.

“It’s been very strange, difficult and confusing times - but it’s nice to start thinking about points and reward again,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“It’s time to start getting stressed and angry again!

“I’ve spoken before about how much I enjoy being with this set of players - and of course how much they enjoy being with me. It’s a marriage made in heaven!

“I love being with this group of players. I love hearing what they think and what they see. I like hearing their opinions and their thoughts, they are brilliant, brilliant characters."

He adds: “King’s Lynn have always been a club who have been able to attract good players. In Adam Marriott they have a Football League player

“Ian Culverhouse is a top coach and he has done a tremendous job, he has done fabulously well.

“Any time you play a team who have just been promoted on the opening day they are going to come at you with a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

“It’s going to be a very tough match. Games don’t come much harder than this.”

Into the unknown for Lynn of course, but their manager want the newcomers to rise to the occasion.

Culverhouse has won two promotions already, and some looking for an outsider to star think his side may be the ones to spring a surprise.

While he wouldn’t ever dampen supporters’ hopes, he is realistic - and hopes location could be on their side ahead on the cameras rolling into the Walks this weekend.

"We’re two hours from anywhere, we’re an hour from the nearest road!” joked the 55-year-old, who spent over a decade at Norwich City.

“Our record before we finally lost to Kidderminster was fantastic - pivotal to what we are about. To go 17 months without losing at home was a credit to the town.

“It’s going to be a culture shock for some of these big clubs to come to our ground!”

He added: “It’s going to be very, very hard. We are going to be a part-time club in pretty much a professional league - we’ve earned the right to have a crack at it, so we’re going to give it our best efforts.

“We really can’t wait for it all now. It’s a big league with big teams and hopefully we won’t be lambs to the slaughter.

“I know this group will give it their best shot. What an adventure we are going to have!”
