Nicholson was disappointed with the news, saying: “We made Dan a very good offer to be part of this squad and work with us to continue his growth and help us achieve our aims here. He chose to move to another club, and he goes with our very best wishes.
“Personally, he was a great pro, a great person, and we loved working with him. I will always be in his corner, and he knows he can come to us for advice on his training and development at any time. In the last fifteen games of the season he was in great form, which is why he had so many offers.
“Everyone here thanks him tremendously for his efforts and we hope he feels he developed here and learnt a lot.
“Professionally players move clubs, which is just part of the game and it, means we have an opportunity to get in a new player in that position and develop them to do that job even better.
“Everyone here knows what we are working towards, what we want to be walking around that pitch with at the end of next season, and everyone here knows that there isn’t a better environment to play, be pushed, develop athletically, and as a person and player, and either go onto bigger things with us or to make that really big move to a League 1, Championship or Premier League club.
“We have some superb people and players here. They all know what is coming, they are all ready for the grind, they know what it takes to win and they know how hard we are going to work.
“We have a lot of hard work ahead over the next few weeks to prepare for August 6th. We have a process to follow, the players know that. Come August 6th we want three points and to be top of the table, that is all any of us are thinking about and working towards. Anything else I couldn't really care less about”.
