BT Sport's Focus Returns To Perhaps The Best Title Tussle Yet

By Sam Elliott

They’re on a record run of 25 matches unbeaten, have won seven from seven with just one National League defeat all season long.

Their top scorer has 32 league goals by mid February and they’ve scored four times in each of their last three games.

Normally a team as red hot as relentless Notts County would already be planning for life in the EFL on the quiet.

But this season? Well the fact that they and title rivals Wrexham are both scheduled to finish the campaign on 112 points paints a clear picture.

These two are bringing us a championship tussle like we’ve never seen before.

And the good news? It’s really only just getting started!

There’s more than two months to go and things are getting more and more intense as the days tick by.

BT Sport’s cameras head to Meadow Lane this weekend and the neutrals tuning in are expecting another show.

Dagenham & Redbridge are the division’s most unpredictable team, deadly one minute and disastrous the next.

But they have their own promotion agenda and Daryl McMahon’s men won’t be pushovers - and the leaders know it.

Notts’ sizzling win over Southend came against the backdrop of a mini injury crisis.

Head coach Luke Williams is understandably not too keen on looking that far ahead but he’ll know the fans will be expecting more of the same.

Asked if the 4-0 win over Southend on Tuesday was his team’s best win so far, he replied: “It’s up there, it has to be up there.

“You have to understand how good the opposition are. We played with real purpose and we had to keep pressing, we mixed it up very well. They showed everything.

“The question is always can we maintain it? We just try to be intense with our work.

“We need to be in this mode for as long as we possibly can.”

Dagenham manager Daryl McMahon is under no illusions about the size of the task in front of his club in the early evening kick-off.

“We’re playing against the best team in the league,”he said.

“They are top of the league, play unbelievable football and have a ridiculous squad full of quality players.

“We know how tough it’s going to be, we’re massive underdogs but we’ve got to play our game.”

He was pleased with the win over Aldershot in midweek, saying: “The boys played really well and worked hard.

“We’re getting people back from injury now and now we hope we can start another good run.”
