Solihull Moors and Eastleigh fans didn’t get the results they wanted during the first part of this sweltering Bank Holiday double header.
The leaders lost the early top-of-the-table clash at Woking, while the Spitfires were held to a timid 1-1 draw with Dagenham.
But the way the two teams performed after the break has given both bosses hope that they can put that right in the evening kick-off on Monday.
Following the 2-0 defeat to the Cards, Moors boss Tim Flowers said: “We were OK for the first few minutes, but from then until half-time we were chocolate.
“It’s not what I am looking for. We didn’t dominate physically and we got messed around too much. We didn’t do the ugly stuff and the dirty side and it’s cost us.
“The standard of goals we let in were woeful. It was poor. In the second half we had six or seven chances - if we get one back I think we go on to get something out of the game. We created enough to win four matches!
“But I didn’t enjoy watching us play, and now we’ve got to pick ourselves up and have a go against Eastleigh,” he told the club’s video player.
“There’s a very long way to go. When I hear people talking about top of the league this, and top of the league that - it’s a bit early yet!”
Eastleigh have lost all three away games so far and haven’t scored a single goal on the road.
Manager Ben Strevens knows it will be four if they don’t turn up until half-time at Solihull - but they could get off the mark away from home if they do what they did after the interval on Saturday.
“It was two very contrasting halves - the first half seemed like a pre-season game,” he said.
“We were slow and lethargic, the heat didn’t help - but it seemed everyone in the ground was tired.
“We had more purpose and tempo in the second half, and it got the fans going again.
“The second half was a lot closer to what I want it to be here and we will hopefully take that up to Solihull Moors on Monday.”
